ECF Notice for Cases of Interest


Any attorney with a Fourth Circuit CM/ECF account can utilize the Notice for Cases of Interest utility to receive notice of activity in any case in the court.


If you do not have an e-File account with the court, register for an "Interested Party" e-File account to access the Notice for Cases of Interest utility.  To register:

  • select the (e-File andor Attorney Admission) option from the Registration Wizard;
  • register as a Non-Attorney; and
  • identify yourself as an Interested Party.

Request Notice for Cases of Interest

Log into CM/ECF 

1. Go to
2. Click on CM/ECF Document Filing System. 


3. Enter your PACER credentials to log into CM/ECF.


Adding a Case to Your Notice List
    1. Select Utilities from the menu bar.
    2. Select Notice for Cases of Interest.


    3. The Notice for Cases of Interest screen will appear.
    4. The e-mail address automatically appears.  If you have more than one email address, only one email address may be selected for notice in cases of interest.
    5. Select the frequency to receive notices.
    6. Enter the appellate case number.  Click Add.
    7. The case number and title will appear in the Selected box.
    8. Click Save.
    9. To remove a case, simply click the red X.


NOTE: With the exception of court orders and opinions, electronic documents filed in immigration cases and social security cases cannot be accessed by members of the public via PACER. You may request notice of activity in social security and immigration cases, but you will only be able to view court orders, opinions and judgments.
